DogAgeWell · A browser-local planning worksheet

A little context. Room for your notes.

Explore a 75% planning marker using a lifespan estimate you already have, then record your own observations and questions.

This marker does not determine whether your dog is senior. Actual aging varies by breed, size, genetics, health, and the individual dog. This worksheet does not estimate lifespan.

Defaults to today on your device. Past or future planning dates are allowed; age is evaluated on this date.

Use an estimate you already have and discuss its uncertainty with a veterinarian. Enter 1.00–35.00, with a decimal point and up to two decimal digits. We never supply an estimate from breed, weight, or health.

This worksheet's code does not transmit entries or persist them in cookies, browser storage, or WordPress. Reset clears this tool's fields; your browser may restore form values after a reload. Copying or printing creates another copy you control.

How the marker works

AAHA’s 2023 guidance cites the 2019 Canine Life Stage Guidelines’ final-quarter framework; AVMA’s senior-pets brochure describes the same broad framework. Neither establishes a specific senior age for every dog or validates this worksheet.

We round your estimate to whole months, then round 75% of those months to a whole-month planning marker. Both use half-up rounding. DOB dates preserve the birth day where available and otherwise clamp to month end: February 29 becomes February 28 in a non-leap February. DOB percentages use actual calendar days; current-age percentages use whole months, so small differences are possible. Approximate months use 30.436875 days per month.

Useful next steps

These guides can help you prepare observations and questions for your veterinarian. The worksheet is only a planning marker; it is not a diagnosis, prognosis, senior-status declaration, quality-of-life score, lifespan estimate, emergency triage tool, care recommendation, or substitute for veterinary care.
